Things are moving along on this initiative! At present we’re writing a business plan and getting ready for launch. Want to get involved? GREAT.

You can do any or all of the following:

1) Join our LOW msg email list (a google group):  (portlandmainetoollibrary) . Being a part of this email group will allow you to attend our meetings, and get updates on conversations that are only relevant to our active members.

2) Have suggestions about what items you would like to see in a tool lending-library? Please add to our “wants” list here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ao6nFnCpAOzKdENCVER5djZDU1JMMEFvQzBJSWhXOUE&usp=sharing

Once we have a lot of definitive answers for a “slow start” we’ll have a meeting to comment on our plan and recruit some more people to make this happen!

  • Where: Portland, ME TBD
  • When: TBD

Waiting until we figure all the structure out before you lend a hand? No problem! We’ll be excited to have you when you appear!

Do you want a tool lending library in Portland, Maine?

We do! This (temporary) website was set up by a small group of folks who are interested in creating a tool library in Portland, Maine.

A tool library works just like a regular library, where people can borrow the equipment that they need for projects such as home and garden, car and bike repair, food preparation and preservation and arts and crafts. There are many ways that tool libraries can be set up- attached to a book lending library, or open on weekends and located independently, partnered with a school or other organization, or as a fee-based club. Just like other libraries, the goal is to make things inexpensive or free and to share resources throughout our community.

Please, join us, and get involved by taking any of the following actions:

1) Join our Google Group (portlandmainetoollibrary) . Being a part of this email group will allow you to attend our meetings, and get updates on conversations that are only relevant to our active members.

2) Have suggestions about what items you would like to see in a tool lending-library? Or, do you have something to donate you think others would use? Please add to our “wants” list here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ao6nFnCpAOzKdENCVER5djZDU1JMMEFvQzBJSWhXOUE&usp=sharing

3) Have suggestions for this group but don’t want to join our action team? Let us know! Email: portlandmainetoollibrary [at] googlegroups [dot] com We welcome further resources, links etc. With these types of collaborations in mind, we will attempt to post any important events, actions or needs to this website so that they are transparent to the larger, yet only semi-interested community.
